Obituary

Lora Alice Steele Monday, 79, Clarksville, died Tuesday evening, January 26, 2010, at Montgomery Care and Rehab Center. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Rev, Louie Montoya, Rev. Jim Hefley, and Rev. Betty Coghill officiating. Burial will be in Wilee's Chapel. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born November 12, 1930 in Corbin, KY, daughter of the late Jonas Fred and Leona McFarland Steele. She graduated from Woodbine (KY) High School with the class of 1954 as co-valedictorian. She attended Skinner Business College in Corbin on a scholarship, and after graduation was employed as a secretary in the superintendent's office of the Middletown, Ohio School System.
December 25, 1956 she married James (Jim) Monday of Corbin and later worked as a secretary for the Southern Baptist Hospital. Cathy Diane Monday was born to the couple at the hospital February 21, 1958. After moving to Clarksville in 1960, she served as the first secretary of the newly formed Dura Containers Company and later as the secretary at the new Cumberland Drive Baptist Church. Lora suffered from physical and emotional illnesses throughtout the years, being hospitalized over 50 times, sometimes for several months. In spite of her illnesses, she managed to be a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, who enjoyed cooking, family get-togethers and gospel music in the home and at church.
She attended First Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Monday; daughter Cathy Lerman (Mike), Clarksville; grandchildren, Christy Laurelle Hunter (Joe) of Springfield; Zachary James Lerman, Clarksville; great-granddaughters, Cora Grace and Amelia (Millie) Rose Hunter, Springfield; two brothers, Herman Steele, Clarksville and Ernest C. Steele, Seymour, TN., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Steele and sisters Viola Nelson and Hazel Duncan. Pallbearers will be Mike Lerman, Zach Lerman, Joe Hunter, Ron Fonk, Brad Morrison, and Steve Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Steele, Ernest Steele,Jimmy Steele, Sue Munoz, Barbara Warren, Carol Smith, and Donna Fonk. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Asera Care Foundation, in care of Asera Care Hospice, 1539 Ashland City Bypass, Clarksville, TN 37040 or to The Salvation Army, 210 Kraft Street, Clarksville, TN 37040 Arrangements entrusted to Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, 1510 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.
