John V. “Johnny Cat” Silvia, Sr., 69, of Westport passed away on his birthday, Saturday, January 23, 2010 at home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Joyce P. (Pettey) Silvia.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Domingos and Mary (Vincent) Silvia and raised by Manuel L. Vincent, he was a lifelong resident of Westport. Mr. Silvia was a truck driver for various concrete companies in the area. He was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport.
Including his wife, survivors include 2 sons: John V. Silvia, Jr. of Westport and Kenneth F. Silvia of Westport; a daughter: Linda M. Geada and her husband Richard of Westport; a brother: Donald Mosteiro of Fall River; a sister: Donna Farias of Tiverton; 8 grandchildren: Brook and Jenna Arsenault, Nelson and Gabriella Geada and Jacob, Lauren, Logan and Amber Silvia; mother-in-law: Constance Pettey of Westport; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Hilda Vaughn-Moore.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, January 26, 2010 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Monday 5 – 8 P.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
