Obituary

WORCESTER: Loretta K. (Fitzgerald) Barry, 81, of 33 Collins St., died peacefully Tuesday, November 3, 2009, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief illness.
She leaves her husband, Charles R. Barry; 2 sons, Charles R. Barry and his wife Grisenia of Plano, TX, John E. Barry and his wife Sheryl of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Barbara Barry Ostromecky of Paxton; a brother, John E. Fitzgerald and his wife Marguerite of Clinton; a sister, Marion A. Flynn and her husband John of Worcester; 6 grandchildren, Brendan, Liam and Jillian Barry, Erin, Jamie and Tara Ostromecky; and many nieces and nephews. Her sister and brother-in-law, Agnes C. and Russell Oliver, of Worcester, predeceased her. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late William and Agnes (Owens) Fitzgerald. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1947, Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing in 1950, and received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree from Boston College in 1958.
Loretta worked as a school nurse with the City of Worcester Department of Public Health for many years. She had also worked for the Veterans Administration, Worcester City Hospital, and in private duty nursing. She most recently worked as a volunteer for the Guild of Our Lady of Providence Free Medical Program at St. Bernard Church. She and her husband marked the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary on October 10th. She was a member of St. Christopher’s Church, the Worcester Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses, the City Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association and a life member of the Chapter No. 4 Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She was also a proud member of the Boston College Alumni Association, having been invested in 2008 into the Society of Golden Eagles for loyal dedication to her alma mater. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her 6 grandchildren. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
CALLING HOURS are 3 to 6 P.M. on SUNDAY, NOV. 8, in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 A.M. on MONDAY, Nov. 9, in ST. CHRISTOPHER’S CHURCH, 950 West Boylston St. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
