My deepest sympathy to you all. Dixie was such a wonderful and strong woman. I was blessed to have known her the short time we lived next door.I enjoyed many talks with her and even called upon her for advice during my divorce. She will truly be missed!! I have many happy memories living next to the "McGratty Clan" that I will hold on to and I hope you all can do the same!!

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your wonderful mother.I have fond memories of hanging out at your home and always feeling welcomed by your mom. I am of the Edward J; Patrick H; and Charles L McGratty lineage who came to the United States Circa 1862 and founded McGratty & Sons, marble Works at 313 Butler St. Brooklyn, NY. EJ was my grandfather and I am pretty sure PH & CL were his brothers, although I never met them
EJ had six sons and one daughter, EJ,Jr.; Frank L (my father); Arthur R, a Jesuit; Charles D; Gerald R; Donald (died in WW II, didn't know him); and Helen McG Mannix. All now deceased, having lost Aunt Helen about 18 months ago.
Thanks to Aunt Helen, I knew that our family roots are in Straban (spelling) north of Derry--yes? Also thanks to her, I have an extensive genealogical background of the family as she knew it. Would be glad to share.
In the mid-80, a Richard McGratty from London, England contacted me and we met and got to know each other reasonable well. He was the owner of Morgan-Oates, but long since lost it to the bad economy. His brother own a ship yard, boat sales establishment "over there". Don't know exact details, but I can locate them if of interest. Richard told me that he and his brother were orphaned, which accounted for his British accent as they were raised by English parent. I too was adopted from the Angel Guardian Home in Brooklyn, but have no knowledge of my birth parents.
Again, this side of the "pond" extends our sincere expression of sympathy and prayers to the Derry McGratty's. Christopher F.
