Obituary

CHESHIRE: Edward P. Cormier, 70, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in the Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in West Roxbury following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Diane M. (Newbold) Cormier.
Born in Gloucester on March 31, 1939, he was the son of the late Edward P. and Gladys (Almeida) Cormier. He had resided in Beverly for several years before moving to Cheshire thirty years ago. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in Germany before being honorably discharged in May 1959.
Edward was employed as a sales manager for the former Mal’s and King’s Department Stores for many years. More recently, he worked for several auto dealerships in the Berkshires. A real sports enthusiast, he enjoyed all the Boston sport teams and was an avid golfer. He also had a passion for collecting baseball cards and cooking and loved to travel, especially to Aruba.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Todd Kenney of Essex, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Todd E. Cormier of Agawam and Phillip E. and Marlene Cormier of Indio, CA, five grandchildren, Matthew, William and Samuel Kenney all of Essex and Alexander and Emma Cormier both of Indio, CA, a brother, Robert and his wife, Kathleen Cormier of Fairhaven, MA, a sister, Eleanor and her husband, Paul Lucas of Rockport, his mother-in-law, Lillian Newbold of Beverly, a sister-in-law, Jeanne and her husband, Paul Goodwin of Beverly and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his father-in-law, Richard Newbold.
His funeral services will be held on Saturday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9 – 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Lanesville.
