Obituary

SALEM - Joseph R. Dylengoski, 87 of Salem, husband of Barbara (Bowden) Dylengoski, died Monday, March 2, 2009 following a short illness.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Pinkos) Dylingowski. He was a graduate of Salem High School in the class of 1939.

A Navy veteran of WWII, Mr. Dylengoski served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as well as in the European Middle Eastern Theater, attained the rating of Machinist’s Mate First Class and was the recipient of the Bronze Star.

Prior to his retirement in the late 1980's, he was employed for many years by the City of Salem Water Department. Prior to his military service, he was employed at Carr Leather in Peabody, and following the war he later worked at the Cremo Café and later at the Derby Café, both on Derby Street, Salem.

An avid golfer, he was a member of the 10th Hole Golf Club at the Salem Municipal Golf Course.

Besides his wife Barbara, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William Dylengoski and his wife Kathleen O’Brien, Steven Dylengoski and his wife Val Kocyba, 3 grandsons, Skip, Jacob and his wife Amy and Corey Dylengoski, 3 sisters, Helen E. and her husband James McLaughlin, Alyce A. Norris, Virginia J. Kelly, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Stella O’Shea, William Dylengoski, John W. Dylingowski and Richard Dylengoski.

His funeral service will be held Friday, March 6, 2009 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at the St. John The Baptist Church, Salem. Visiting hours are Thursday, 5 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
