Obituary

Leon J. Cyr, retired Brockton Police Department, 75 years of Brockton died Thursday February 26, 2009 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston. He was born and raised in Brockton, the son of the late Henry and Philomena (Guarino) Cyr. Mr. Cyr attended Brockton Catholic Schools. During the Korean war he served in the US Army. In his earlier years Mr. Cyr had worked for the Quincy Shipyard, the Brockton Fire Dept. and retired from the Brockton Police Dept. as a detective. He enjoyed watching movies, all kind of sports and was an avid Red Sox fan, but most of all spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Mary E. Bartlett, Gloria Cyr, Dolores T. Cyr and Elizabeth Cyr all of Brockton and John Cyr of RI; 9 grandchildren and a great granddaughter; former wife Jean (Umano) Cyr; three sisters, Gloria Peterson of Weymouth, Teresa DuVal of Brockton and Julia Fratalia of Duxbury; and his longtime companion of 32 years Doris Blanchard and her children and grandchildren. He was the father of the late Ann Marie Cyr.

Funeral Service in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Wednesday at 10am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8pm.
