Obituary

McCabe William H. Jr. of Weston, beloved by his family and friends, passed away after a long illness on February 18, 2009.

He was born on September 8, 1936 in Yonkers, NY to William H. McCabe, Sr. and Catherine Connolly. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda and their three children, William and his wife Wendy of Weston, Michael and his wife Polly of Weston and Jennifer Regan and her husband Michael of Wayland.

He was the devoted grandfather of Riley, Lindsay, Collin, Piper, Declan, Maggie and Olivia McCabe, all of Weston and Catherine, Will and Andy Regan of Wayland. He is also survived by his two sisters Barbara Ann O’Brien of Westerly, RI and Catherine MacDonald of San Diego, CA and his two brothers, John of Holly Lake Ranch, TX and Dan of Buffton, SC.

Mr. McCabe had been a resident of Weston for 37 years. He received his bachelor of arts degree in 1958 from Manhattan College and received his JD from Villanova University.

For over 23-years he was a general partner in New England Development in Newton, MA where he was involved in the development of numerous retail shopping centers throughout New England. He was an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and served as its 40th Chairman in 1999. Prior to his election as Chairman of ICSC, Mr. McCabe served on the Government Relations Committee, the ICSC PAC and its Board of Trustees.

He was a member of St John the Evangelist in Wellesley, MA and was actively involved in the renovation of the church back in the late 1990’s. He was also an avid sailor and was active in the design and construction of most all of his boats. As a member of the Charles River Sail and Power Squadron (CRSPS) since 1971, Mr. McCabe accumulated 29 merit marks representing significant contributions to the organization and ultimately served as Commander of CRSPS from 1993-1994. He was passionate about his golf and was an active member of the Weston Golf Club for many years.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 477 Washington St. (Rt. 16) WELLESLEY, Monday at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Wellesley Hills, at 10AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Sunday from 4-8PM. Interment, Linwood Cemetery, Weston.
