Joyce Day, 77, of Fitzgerald died Saturday, October 11, 2008, at Phoebe Putney Hospital, Albany, Ga.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at 2 PM at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel in Cumming, GA with the Rev. Joey Heard and Terry Samples officiating. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Gardens. Visitation will be at The Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald, on Sunday evening from 7 until 9 PM and at Ingram Funeral Home, Cumming, on Monday evening from 7 until 9 PM.
Mrs. Day was born October 18, 1930 in Forsyth County, Georgia to the late Cilvie and Mentie Pirkle Samples. She was a 1948 graduate of Forsyth County High School. A retired real estate broker, she moved to Fitzgerald in 1980 from Morrow, GA. She worked with Roanoke Realty for many years. Mrs. Day also was a licensed cosmetologist and a school bus driver for Ben Hill and Clayton Counties. She was member of New Prospect Baptist Church.
She is survived by Daughter: Vickie Day Smith of Fitzgerald; Sons: Jackie (Wanda) Day of Fitzgerald and Brandon (Lauren) Day of Macon, GA; Grandchildren: Jacqueline Hutchinson, Leslie Day, Priscilla Day, Stephanie Adams, and Missy Day; 1 Great-grand daughter and 3 great-grandsons; Brother: Buddy Samples of Gainesville, GA and Sisters: Ruth Green of Cumming, GA and Ethelena Smith of Buford, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Day, a son-in-law, David Smith, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
