Obituary

Maurice “Murray” Searle died on Sunday September 14th at Newton Wellesley Hospital. He was 93 years old. Mr. Searle grew up in Boston and had lived in Newton for 53 years. He was a US Navy World War II veteran, having served in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres as a first class petty officer aboard an assault transport ship. Mr. Searle earned several campaign medals and the recently authorized combat ribbon. While in the South Pacific he volunteered for submarine duty, where he served the last seven months of his naval service. Mr. Searle enjoyed a brief boxing experience while stationed at the naval base in Newport RI. It was from this experience that he became a lifelong boxing fan. Murray Searle was an insurance agent for over 60 years. His career began in the Greater Boston Chinese Community which later extended throughout New England as Asian businesses expanded at the close of World War II. He was always aware and grateful for the many friendships he shared with his clients. The beloved husband of Isabelle (Mersicano) Searle, he was the loving father of Darryln Searle of Foxboro, Richard Searle and his wife Heather of Albuquerque NM, and the late dearly missed Robert Searle. Grandfather of Eric Searle and Adam Searle and his wife Lenore. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton and Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St Newton Corner on Thursday September 18 from 4-8 pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A Funeral service will be held at the Newton Cemetery Chapel 791 Walnut St, Newton on Friday at 1:00 PM. Interment at Newton Cemetery. If desired donations in Murray’s name may be made to your favorite charity.
