Obituary

TENNIHAN, Ralph E._Of Dedham, formerly of Jamaica Plain, age 84, left this earth surrounded by his loving family on June 29th. Loving husband for over 58 years to Marie (Hilferty) Tennihan. Devoted father to Paul K. Tennihan and his wife Marilyn (Mal) of Westwood, Jean M. Tennihan of Norwood, and Jane T. Weiss and her husband Andrew of Dedham. Cherished grandfather of Meredith and Molly Tennihan of Westwood and Emma Weiss of Dedham. Son of the late Ralph E. Tennihan and Mary (Fetherston) Tennihan and brother to the late Mary Scipione, Dorothy Boyle Blood and Joseph W. Tennihan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ralph was a proud veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II, serving on the USS Falgout. He spent most of his working years in the transportation industry where he used his keen sense of humor and charisma to achieve professional and personal success. Upon retirement, he took a position at the Dedham Institution for Savings, where he was employed at his time of death. He was the "voice of Dedham Savings" as the bank's switchboard operator for over 18 years. Ralph held the title of Traffic Commissioner in Dedham and was a member of the Traffic Committee for many years. He was a member of the Society in Dedham for Apprehending Horse Thieves. He was a loyal parishioner and past usher of St. Denis Church in Westwood. Ralph will always be remembered for his quick Irish wit, his distinguished appearance and his love of family and friends. His stories and laughter will live in the hearts of his family forever. Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM, Thursday at 9 AM. Funeral mass in St. Denis Church, Westwood, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8 PM. Interment Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, the charity that always held a special place in Ralph's heart
