Obituary

Westport - John A. Clark, 56, died Sunday, January 20, 2008 after a year long struggle with pancreatic cancer. Beloved husband of Sharon Lloyd Clark and devoted father of Courtney Elizabeth and Geoffrey Paul. John was born in Palmyra, NY on August 31, 1951. The son of Marjorie (Crumb) Clark of Tiverton, RI and the late William G. Clark, he was raised on a dairy farm in upstate NY. There he learned the values of hard work, commitment and love of nature. He attended Cornell University and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1976. He met and married Sharon, a graduate student in history at the time.

John’s first practice was a large animal practice in Geneva, NY. He became a partner in Cambridge Veterinary Associates in Cambridge, NY in 1981. In 1988, when the family moved to Providence, RI, John gave up large animal practice and worked with small animals at the Warwick Animal Hospital. He established his own practice, Pawtucket Animal Clinic, in 1993. John loved spending time with his family - camping, kayaking and hiking. John was an avid woodworker who collected and used 19th century hand tools. With patience and skill, he refinished antiques. In recent years, he took up making Windsor chairs. He will be remembered for his kindness, goodness and sense of humor.

John is survived by a brother, William G. Clark of WV and predeceased by his brother Peter L. Clark.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Stephen’s Church, George St., Providence, RI on Friday, January 25, 2008 at 11:00 A.M.
