Obituary

Rev. Msgr. William A. Granville, 89, a Retired senior Priest of the Archdiocese of Boston, died on Sat Dec. 29, 2007 at the mass general hospital in Boston.
Born in Dorchester, he graduated from Boston Latin High School in 1936 and attended Boston College from 1936-1938 and entered St. John’s Seminary in Brighton in Sept 1938. He was ordained by Bishop Richard Cushing on Oct 28, 1943 and was appointed
to St. Margaret Parish in Lowell. In 1945 he became Professor of Greek and Latin at Cardinal O’Connell Seminary until 1963 when he was appointed Rector of the seminary, a position he held until 1969. He was appointed pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Newton Centre where he served until 1983. Msgr. Granville then served as associate pastor and Senior Priest in Residence at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Bridgewater from 1983 until 1995. He lived at Carmel Terrace at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham and retied to Regina Cleri in Boston in June 1997.
Msgr. Granville was the son of the late Michael T. and Alice (King) Granville, and is survived by his sister Gertrude Denehy of West Roxbury and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was the brother of the late Mildred O’Reilly, Virginia Baldwin, Thomas R. Granville, Helen LaBreck and Mary Gibbons.
Msgr. Granville will lie in state in Regina Cleri 60 William Cardinal Way Boston on Tues from 2-5 PM. A concelebrated mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wed Jan 2 at 10 AM in St. Joseph Church 68 Cardinal O’Connell Way Boston. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
