I have a picture with Dapper at the Charlestown Navy Yard at the Korean War Memorial. I cherish it and sent it to everyone. He won my heart when he ran for sheriff and passed out little sheriff badges, i wish i had one to wear today. someday i will make a point to eat at Arnheims.

Dear Friends + Family of Dapper O'Neill We are grieved that he is gone....just a few weeks ago we had sent him a letter and a card and happy at least that we had made contact with him. Boston politics will never be the same without Dapper and just a few others of his ilk. We so enjoyed his positive and powerful speeches at the ROAR meetings when Boston citizens were shocked at the treatment received by a recalcitrant government ruling. Later, it was deemed wrong, and very unfair to Boston citizens. We will never forget Dapper, Jimmy Kelly, and Louise Hicks, who stood up for brave Americans during the trauma of busing. From them we gained a lesson in abusive politics. We send thoughtful prayers, and wish you all well during these very difficult times. Thank you.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Dapper. He was an institution in the City of Boston and I enjoyed talking with him whenever our paths crossed. I am an old friend of his late niece Evelyn Walsh. We worked together - along with 4 other young women-back in 1963/64 at Hartford Life Insurance Co. in Boston. Lately, I had been trying to find her and read just today in Dapper's obituary that she has passed away. Could someone drop me a quick email about her. Our "group" from the Hartford Life days has been trying to plan a reunion and we would like to honor Evelyn's memory. Thank you. Nancy Merz Nordstrom

My condolences to Helen and all of Dapper's family. I ahve known Dapper since I was 17 years old. I am now 65 Years old. He is the reason I registered to vote and become involved with politics and my community of South Boston. I want you all to know that he helped us out when we had a house fire and we lost everything. My children were only 7 and 9 years old and he brought us cloths. We will always be grateful. We were invited every Year to Dapper's Birthday party at City Hall. We still have the pictures. Which reminds me, I still have the sheriff badges. bumperstickers, and lots of other pins from every election he was in. That's because I worked the polls for him. My children would also help with the distrobution of the bumper stickers at the supermarket on Broadway. I also have kept a scrap book of him for all these years.I loved the stories he would tell me about the Army , especially the ones about Sicily. I guess what I'm trying to say is he will be missed not only by me and my family but by thousands of families and lives he has touched over the years. He was a great Politician,a great humanitarian and the last of a dying breed. I hope he and Mayor Curley are having a great reunion. God Bless him!!!!

Dapper you were one of a kind. I'll never forget those weekends in P-Town at the Crown and Anchor. You had a wide stance way before it became fashionable.

As a firefighter in the city, "Dapper" was always there for us..as a member of Eng 3 in the South End in the early 1970's he was the only city official present during the unrest and riots in the area of Blackstone Park..I will always remember his support during those tough times...Thanks "Dapper"

My heartfelt condolences to all of you. They told me Dapper would talk my grandparents' ears off back in Roxbury. My parents would always smile each time they heard him speak when I was growing up in West Roxbury. I will never forget how he tried to save our schools and all that he did for the people of Boston. May he rest in peace.
