New Bedford – Steven F. DeTerra, 34, of New Bedford died unexpectedly at home on December 2, 2007.
Mr. DeTerra was born in New Bedford the son of Rosella (Avery) DeTerra of Mattapoisett and raised in New Bedford and Mattapoisett. He graduated from Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School and attended classes at Bristol Community College, Bridgewater State College and New England Tech.
He lived for several years in Florida where he managed apartment complexes for Trammel Crowe. He had worked for Tremblay’s Bus Co. of New Bedford as a motor coach driver and for the City of New Bedford as a Bookmobile driver. He was currently a substitute teacher at the Keith and Normandin Middle Schools and a bartender at The Rainbow’s End and Le Place.
He loved spending time with his family & friends. He was involved in local politics, supported area causes and enjoyed cooking, bike riding, reading and computers.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his partner: Shawn Duarte of New Bedford; 2 brothers: James F. DeTerra III and his wife Nicole of Assonet and Mark McKenna of California; his maternal grandmother: Agnes Avery of Dartmouth; uncles and aunts: Donald & Carol Bellefeville and Fred and Sally Avery of Dartmouth; cousins: John, Danielle, Timothy and the late Hannah Roy of New Bedford and Mark and Neil Avery of Dartmouth; nephews: Tate, Casey and Jacob DeTerra; and a niece: Emma DeTerra.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours 1:00-3:00 P.M. on Friday, December 7, 2007.
Funeral services and interment will be private.
