Obituary

Candeloro J. "Rocco" Maffa, a 37 year resident of Wakefield, died on Thursday October 11, 2007 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital following an extended illness. He was 80 years old.

Rocco was born in Boston on March 19, 1927. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools. He began working at the Boston Naval Shipyard before enlisting into the United States Navy on May 4, 1944. He served during World War 2 and was discharged as a Coxswain on May 19, 1946. Following his discharge, Rocco began working at Revere Sugar Company in Charlestown as an electrician and retired after 34 years of service.

Rocco is the beloved husband of 51 years to Marilyn J. (Dowd) Maffa. He is the devoted father of Kathleen A. Maffa-Krailo and her husband Robert of Reading, Marianne Maffa Small and her husband Matthew of Dover, New Hampshire and Jeanne Marie Maffa of Wakefield. He is the loving "Papa" of Michael Coup, Olivia and Owen Krailo, Jenna and Madison Small. He is the beloved brother of Pauline LaCarbonara of Stoneham, Marie Hubbard of Belmont, Louise Rodrigues of Arlington, Francis "Frank" Maffa of Marshfield and the late Josephine Ferreira and Paul Maffa.

Rocco's Funeral will be held on Monday October 15, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home 1159 Main St. Wakefield/Melrose line followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Joseph's Church, 173 Albion St. Wakefield at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Rocco will be held on Sunday October 14, 2007 from 2 to 6 p.m. Burial will take place at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
