Obituary

Martha Sims Cook, 60, of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness Thursday September 6, 2007 at Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Martha was an active member of Campfire Girls, a graduate of Grady High School and received her RSNBN from the Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing. She lived in Mattapoisett for the past 26 years, and on Kiawah Island, South Carolina for the past 10 years. She devoted her life to her family, her friends and her garden. Martha was a founding member of MOM, regularly attended meetings of the Seaport Six and actively chatted as Hortiwench on AOL's Garden Chat. She was a member of the Mattapoisett Womens Club and the Mattapoisett Garden Club, and enjoyed genealogy and playing bridge. Martha attended the Mattapoisett Congregational Church.

Survivors include her husband Dr. William Edward Cook, daughter Lisa Cook Ford and her husband Russell C. Ford and their children Carson, Courtney and Connor, daughter Angela Cook Robbins and her husband David T. Robbins and their children William and Charles, son Benjamin Edward Cook and his wife Jessica Hales Cook, parents, Robert Kenneth Sims, Sr. and Carene Paden Sims of Tucker, Georgia, sister, Ellen White of Albany, Georgia, brother, Robert K. Sims, Jr. of Atlanta; ten nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

Her Memorial Service will be held on Monday at 11 AM in the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 2-5 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett. Burial will be private.
