Walsh of Brockton August 29, 2007, Matthew J. Walsh 20 years. Cherished son of Joseph and Cheryl (Venuti) Walsh. Endearing brother of Nancy Carroll and her husband Renny of Saugus, Melissa Walsh of Malden and Jillian Walsh of Brockton. Proud uncle of Terrance and Rylie Carroll. Grandson of Arthur Walsh of Tewkesbury. He also leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
"...Cancer may be able to take over a person's body, but it can't get your soul. So if you have the will, no matter how bad the cancer, it can't kill your spirit. So, that is why I was able to be calm and at peace with this."
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Tuesday at 10 am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church 433 West St., Brockton at 11 am. Burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Matt’s name may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute Dr. Hodi’s Melanoma Research, Atten: Contribution Service 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline, MA 02445.

Obituary

Matthew J. Walsh 20 years of Brockton died Wednesday at Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with melanoma. Born in Norwood a son of Joseph and Cheryl (Venuti) Walsh he was a lifelong resident of Brockton. Matt was a 2005 graduate of Brockton High School where he was a member of the Key Club, Concert Choir and Drama Club. Matt was involved with the drama club as both a stage hand and on-stage performer and had appeared in Bye Bye Birdie, The Music Man, 42nd Street and Anything Goes. He had garnered awards in several state competitions. Matt’s love for the theater carried over to Curry College where he was a communication/theater major. He was a member of Curry Theater and the college radio station.
Matt enjoyed collecting movies and watching horror films. He had said the Halloween was his most enjoyable holiday, even better than Christmas. His family and friends will remember his selfless and courageous disposition. He loved people and loved life and during his illness never questioned “Why me”.
Matt had been a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church where he had been an altar server.
In addition to his parents he is survived by three sisters Nancy Carroll and her husband Renny of Saugus, Melissa Walsh of Malden and Jillian Walsh of Brockton. He leaves a nephew and a niece Terrance and Rylie Carroll. He was the grandson of Arthur Walsh of Tewkesbury
He is survived by many aunts, uncle, cousins and friends
He was the grandson of the late Matthew and Dorothy Venuti and Mary Walsh
