Obituary

Anna Theresa Prendergast of North Reading, formerly of Melrose, died on Monday, March 27, 2006, at her daughters’ home in Melrose following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 88 years old.

Anna was born in Boston on March 29, 1917. She grew up in Somerville where she attended St. Ann’s Parochial School and graduated from Somerville High School. Early on in her married life Anna worked at her brother-in-laws insurance company in Somerville and later was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Clerk in the Division of Employment Security. When not at work, she devoted herself to raising and caring for her 5 children. Anna loved to play bingo and was also involved for many years in the North Suburban Mother of Twins Club.

Anna was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Joseph Prendergast. She is the devoted mother of Anne Gannon and her husband Peter of Ft. Myers, FL, Meg Crooker and her husband John of North Reading, Marian Finn and her husband Paul of Melrose, Thomas J. Prendergast, Jr., and his wife Barbara of Sandwich, Lauren Applegate and her husband Richard of Melrose and her late infant son Joseph Prendergast. She is the loving “Grandma” of Jed Gannon, Paul, Ashley and Bob Crooker, Kevin, Brian and Denise Applegate and Tommy and Bethany Prendergast. Anna is also “GG” to Darby and Beck Gannon and Special “Anna” to Alison and Wayne Bartolucci and Chris and Meaghan Finn. She is the dear sister of Mary “Ruth” McDonald of Melrose and the late Eileen Breen. Anna is also survived by several sisters-in-law, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Anna’s Funeral will be held from the Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, MELROSE/WAKEFIELD, on Friday, March 31, 2006, at 9:00 a.m. followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, (corner of Myrtle & Herbert Streets), Melrose, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours for Anna will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2006, from 4 – 8 p.m. Burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
