Obituary

Robert F. Bowen, age 88, passed on June 28, 2011 at his home in Londonderry, N.H., after a short illness, with the support of loving family and the Rockingham County Hospice.
Born in Concord, N.H., son of Arthur and Marion Bowen, Bob grew up in Bow and graduated from Concord High School, class of ’41. He joined the Army Air Corp in 1943 and on July 4, 1944 married Marilyn A. Hemphill; they remained a loving couple for 64 years until Marilyn’s passing in 2008. Soon after their marriage, the young private deployed with the Cargo Combat Unit, 1st Cargo Combat Squadron to China, and received two distinguished flying crosses. He transferred to the United State Air Force and after 44 years of distinguished service in the armed forces, including 34 years of duty in the National Guard, he retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. A strong patriotic-man, Robert Bowen took pride in having served his country.
Bob enjoyed time with family, friends, and his hobbies, which included tending fruit trees as well as gardening, ice-skating, and fishing in his boat, Mission Fishin’.
Surviving him are three children: Greg and his wife Tina, Gary, and Gayle and her husband Samuel, as well as his three beloved grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Other family surviving are sisters: Pauline and Gertrude. His brother John predeceased him.
Bob’s wish was to have a private graveside service with his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local Hospice or charity of your choice. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry is assisting the family with arrangements.
