Obituary

Jeanne A. Cote, 93, of Hooksett, died June 4, 2011 at home surrounded by family, after a period of declining health.

She was born in Hooksett, February 6, 1918 and was the daughter of William and Hedwidge (Doucet) Duguay. She resided in Manchester until 1998 when she moved to Hooksett to live with her daughter Irene Cote, her husband Rick and their children Joshua and Elizabeth.

Mrs. Cote graduated from St. George High School in 1936. She was a member of the
Third Order of St. Francis, Marie Rivier Associates, and the Community of Living Waters in Manchester. She served as Secretary for the Ste. Anne Sodality at St. John the Baptist Parish for many years where she also taught CCD, served on the Parish Council and assisted in the “Little Church” program which provided baby-sitting services during weekend Masses. She volunteered at the Messenger Book Shop; worked at W. T. Grant Co, E&R Laundry and was the President of Louis P. Cote Inc., all of Manchester.

She was a communicant of St. Marie Church and Parish of the Transfiguration (St. John the Baptist) in Manchester.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis P. Cote, who died in 1965; her brothers Roger and William Duguay, and her sister Irene Carroll.

She leaves five sons, Louis Cote Jr. and his wife Jean of Canterbury, NH, Fr. Roland Cote of Manchester, NH, John Cote and his wife Paula of Goffstown, NH, Donald Cote and his wife Susan of New Boston, NH and Michael Cote and his wife Pam of Manchester; two daughters, Diane Lavoie and her husband Max of New Bern, NC and Irene Cote and her husband Rick of Hooksett, NH. She was devoted to her family and loved her 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by them as “Memere” and “Mem”.She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies, her large family gatherings, and her love of the card game “Skip-Bo” which she enjoyed playing with all who visited her. “There’s no love in cards” she would say as she smiled and beat her opponents. She was a woman of great faith and never hesitated to offer her prayers for those in need.


A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Parish of the Transfiguration, 305 Kelley St., Manchester. Burial followed in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
