TAUNTON – Joao M. Pereira, the husband of Margarida (Tavares) Rodrigues, died at the Life Care Center of Raynham on Jan. 16, 2010.
He was 80.
Born and raised in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel and Isabel (Oliveira) Pereira.
A fisherman in the Azores before moving to this country in 1989, he worked for a short time for the former Coppercraft Guild, before retiring in 1990.
A communicant of St. Anthony Church, and a member the Taunton Eagles, Mr. Pereira enjoyed fishing in his spare time.
Besides his wife of Taunton, he leaves a son, Gilbert Pereira of St. Michael; two daughters, Conceicao Pereira and Lurdes Pereira, both of St. Michael; two step-sons, Joseph Rodrigues of Westport, and Alfred Rodrigues of Taunton; one step-daughter, Diane Rego of East Taunton; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Wednesday, Jan. 20th at 11 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 12 Noon.
Burial will be at Mayflower Hill Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m.
