Benjamin C. "Ben" Lee Sr., age 51, of 20 Allen Street, Groton, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 24th, 2008 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital with his family and friends at his side.
He was born in New London March 17, 1956 the son of Joan Prue Lee of Groton and the late William F. Lee. He lived most of his life in Ledyard where he attended local schools.
Ben was currently employed at Calamari Recycling Company in Essex. Also a life-long auto mechanic, he was a well-known a racer at the Waterford Speedbowl for over 20 years.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and building and remodeling homes in the area. He will also be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and friend who was loved by all.
He first married Constance Voyles on March 15th, 1975 which resulted in the birth of his first son, Benjamin C. Lee Jr. of Anderson, SC. He later married Kimberly A. Herman on October 25, 1986 and together had three children, Joseph B. Lee, Andrew R. Lee, and Julie A. Lee. During this time, he also lovingly adopted his three nephews, Robert J. Lee, Daniel G. Lee, and Jimmy Lee and his wife Christina. He also is survived by four beautiful granddaughters, and two grandsons; three brothers, William, Bruce, and Brian Lee; two sisters, Betty and Barbara Lee, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Friday from 5-7pm. A Funeral Service will be conducted at Bishop Seabury Episcopal Church, Rte. 117, Groton on Saturday at 10am. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations, to assist Ben's family to defray expenses, be made to Joseph B. Lee, c/o Core Plus Federal Credit Union, 255 Route 12, Groton CT 06340.
