Obituary

Georgette L. (Bessette) Leger, 73, of New Bedford died Monday April 24, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Andre G. Leger, to whom she was married for 52 years.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Lucienne (Moquin) and former State Representative G. Leo Bessette, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life. She was a graduate of St. Anthony's High School.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph-St. Therese Church.

Mrs. Leger was formerly employed at ComElectric for 16 years until her retirement in 1996. She had previously worked for New England Telephone and Continental Screw Company.

She enjoyed being with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Paul E. Leger, and his wife Estelle, of Acushnet, and Robert L. Leger, and his wife Margaret, of Quincy; two daughters, Diane J. Nunes, and her husband Thomas, of Dartmouth, and Lynne M. Lacey, and her husband William, of New Bedford; a brother, G. Leo Bessette II of Lake Mary, Fla.; two sisters, Jacqueline Lee of Cape Coral, Fla., and Marie Elena Salinas of Longwood, Fla.; ten grandchildren, Michael, Danielle, Nicole, Conrad, Nicholas and Laura Leger, Adam and Timothy Nunes, and Tara and Connor Lacey; and many nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM in St. Joseph-St. Therese Church with burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford.
