Antero "Monty" Souza, 88, of Dartmouth died July 17, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Mary A. (Medeiros) Souza, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of the late Frederico B. and Maria (Costa) Souza, he lived in Dartmouth most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.
Monty spent his best years raising his family and teaching Ballroom/Line Dancing in the Greater New Bedford and Fall River area.
He enjoyed baking cakes, gardening, painting, making greeting cards, going to the gym and refinishing furniture.
Survivors include his devoted wife; his 6 children, Deborah McLaughlin and her husband Joseph, Karen Tavares and her husband Michael, Wayne Souza and his wife Jeannette, Paul Souza and his wife Christine, Gregg Souza and his wife Carrie, and Lolly Owens and her husband Christopher; 5 siblings, Mary Tinkham, Inez Romig, Albert Souza, Alfred Souza and David Souza; 12 wonderful grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Frederico Souza, Alvaro Souza, Eulalia Rapoza, Bertha Souza, Alda Souza and Cecelia Mosakowski.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, July 21st at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, July 20th from 4-8 PM.
