SCANLON, John, 79, of Roslindale on January 14, 2015 suddenly but surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of 56 years to Frances (O’Brien) Scanlon. He was the loving father of the late Maura Scanlon McRae, Tricia Scanlon and her partner for life John Lonergan of East Bridgewater, Caroline Peucker and her husband Mark of Stoughton, Siobhan Dullea and her husband John of Westwood. He was the treasured Pop to his grandchildren Beth, Kate, Sarah, Christian, Liam and Maggie. He was the son of the late Denis and Bridget (Martin) Scanlon, the brother of the late Neil, Denny, Tommy, Billy, Joe, Anne Scanlon. He is also the brother of Jimmie and Frank Scanlon. He was a good man, a very good man. A man of immense faith, he was a dedicated parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish in Roslindale for more than 50 years. As an educator at heart, he committed himself for 40 years to the Brockton Public School system, retiring in 1996 as the principal of the Raymond School in Brockton. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St., WEST ROXBURY, Monday, January 19, 2015 at 9 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Sacred Heart Church, 169 Cummins Highway, Roslindale. Visiting hours Sunday 1-4 pm. Relatives and friends invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer or the American Diabetes Association. Burial will be private.
