Obituary

WORCESTER- Doris M. (Couming) Healey died Saturday, January 10, 2015. She was born in Worcester, November 28, 1922 to Irish immigrant parents, Matthew Couming (Tipperary) and Anastatia (Wall) Couming (Waterford).


She leaves her son James M. Healey and his wife Patricia of Spencer; and daughter Anne M. Quinlivan and her husband Thomas of Worcester, with whom she lived. She also leaves eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Healey) Snaith of Georgetown, SC, Moira Healey of Worcester, Woodrow “Woody” Healey of Auburn, Daniel, Bridget and Brian Healey all of Spencer, Seamus Quinlivan and his wife Katie of Worcester, and Matthew Quinlivan of Worcester; three great grandchildren, Stephanie (Healey) Shurling of Georgetown, SC, Javon Watkins of Worcester and Lindsay Quinlivan of Worcester; two great-great granddaughters, Allyiah and Hailey of Georgetown, SC.


Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband James “Red” Healey in 1997; and her daughters, Mary in 2014 and Patricia in 2004; and brothers, O’Donnell Couming and Rev. William R. Couming; her sisters, Helen Leonard, Veronica Salmonsen, Dorothy Couming and Phyllis Riley.


Doris attended Classical High School and Worcester School of Business Science. She worked at the old Saint Vincent Hospital and Heywood Valley Nursing Home for many years. Doris lived most of her life on Blossom Street in Worcester. She moved to Port Richie, FL in 1987, returning to Worcester in 2001. She was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 36.


Doris’ funeral will be held on Thursday, January 15 from CALLAHAN~FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street with a Mass at 11:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 55 Pleasant Street. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will also be held on Thursday from 9-10:30 am in the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the TV Mass, 49 Elm Street, Worcester, MA 01609; VNA Hospice Care, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608; or to the Nazareth Home for Boys, 77 Mulberry Street, Leicester, MA 01542.
