DENEKAMP, Elizabeth M. “Betty” (Howden), suddenly, of West Roxbury, Jan. 4, 2015. Beloved wife of the late Herman Denekamp. Loving mother of Linda Denekamp of West Roxbury, Sandra Denekamp and her husband Richard Davis of West Roxbury, and Cynthia Denekamp of Stoughton. Sister of the late Beatrice Dinn, and the late MSgt. Norman Howden, U.S.A.F. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY, Friday, Jan. 9th at 9 am. followed by a Funeral Service in Stratford Street United Church, 77 Stratford St. West Roxbury at 10 o'clock. Visiting hours Thursday 3-8 pm. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Gethsemane Cemetery. Late Graduate of Roslindale High, Her life having spanned so many decades allowed her to witness the most memorable and interesting period in the history of the World. When WWII broke out, Betty wasn’t satisfied being a bystander. She dove in with both feet by joining the US Marine Corp. She lived the motto Semper Fi throughout her life and was selected to fly on Honor Flight to Washington D.C. where she met Commandant Amos and toured the WWII Memorial. Betty remained active in the Women’s Marine Assoc. Baystate Chapter MA-1. She volunteered at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury, and was an active member of the Stratford St. United Church. Betty loved to travel and maintained ties to family in Edinburgh, Scotland. She never forgot her Scottish roots even naming her dog Thistle. Betty especially enjoyed spending time at her summer home on the coast of Maine.
