Ruth A. (Gabis) Varney, 77, of Worcester died Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Saint Vincent Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
She leaves her beloved husband of 57 years, Robert J. Varney; seven children, Marion A. Russell of Worcester, Darlene A. Varney-Carlson of Delray Beach, FL, Cynthia A. Tavakolnia of Spencer, Robert A. Varney of Worcester, Wayde A. Varney of E. Brookfield, Keith A. Varney of New Hampshire and Jessica A. Volpe of Leominster. Ruth was a loving and devoted grandmother of 13 and great grandmother of 10. She truly cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of Charles and Blanche (Brikas) Gabis and graduated from Worcester Fanning Trade School. Ruth worked at Paul Revere Insurance for many years. She was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Church. Ruth enjoyed her craft projects and sewing, and she loved to go fishing with Bob.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 24 from CALLAHAN~FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, with a Mass at 9:30 AM in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main Street. Entombment in St. John’s Mausoleum will follow. Visiting hours are Tuesday, December 23 from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.
