Shirley M. (Brothers) Booten, 81, of New Bedford died Tuesday December 16, 2014 at the Oaks Nursing Home after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Allen Dale Booten II.
Born in Oak Bluffs, the daughter of the late Charles and Mary E. (Young) Brothers, she lived in New Bedford for over 60 years. She was a tribal member of the Pokanoket/Wampanoag Tribal Nation of Bristol, Rhode Island where she was known as Whispering Star.
She is survived by her sister, Gloria J. Gibson; her nephews, Kevin and Bryan Gibson; several great-nieces and great-nephews; a great-great-niece; and many cousins and friends.
She was the sister of the late William, Walter, and Owen Brothers.
In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 9 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Private burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
