Obituary

WORCESTER-Dorothy M. (Vangel) Goven, 90, died in the early morning on Sunday, November 9, 2014, peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Douglas J. Goven in 2003.

Dorothy is survived by her four children; Donna M. Goven, Linda M. Granger and her husband Carlos, Sandra J. Johnson and her husband Kenny; and a son, Kevin M. Goven, all of Worcester. Her six beloved grandchildren, Amanda, Stefanie, Victoria, Christiana, Justin and Amber and two great grandchildren, Cameron and Lennox. She also leaves her brother, George Vangel of Worcester and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two sisters, Katherine Lacey and Nora Peters, and two brothers, Thomas and James Vangel.


She was born in Worcester to Albanian immigrants, Liger and Victoria (Soter) Vangel, and was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Albanian Orthodox Church. A 15 year retiree of Astra Pharmaceuticals, Dorothy was a dedicated wife and mother, whose pride was taking care of her home and family. Her home, the heart of her family, is where she watched generations celebrate and grow over the last 60 years. From birthdays to holidays, Dorothy’s legacy will always be the love and joy she provided for her family there.


Dorothy’s Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 12 at St. Mary’s Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery. A visiting hour will also be held on Wednesday from 10-11 am at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to St. Mary’s Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609.
