Obituary

WORCESTER-Darryl Alan Atanian was a graduate of South High School class of 1972, and attended Worcester Junior College. Most particularly, he spent his life as a professional musician. He was a member of the group “Archer” based in New York City as well as a number of local bands, one of which was the Henry Shackel Band. Darryl was also a member of the John Prine touring crew in the capacity of a guitar technician.



Darryl leaves his mother, Florence(Harootunian) Atanian of Worcester; his brother, Dana Atanian of Kingston, MA; his sister and brother-in-law, Daria Atanian Melendez and Nelson Melendez of Tampa, FL; three nieces Devan and Katie Atanian and Bianca Starr Melendez. Darryl was predeceased by his father Anthony Atanian and his grandparents, Haroutun and Aghavnie Harootunian.He also leaves his dear cousins Artie and Donna Mooradian of Worcester and Gilbert Markarian and his family of Houston, TX; and many fellow musicians and friends.




Funeral services and burial for Darryl will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Armenian Apostolic Holy Trinity Church, 635 Grove Street, Worcester MA 01605.



Darryl was a genuine child of the 60’s. He truly saw music as an important and unifying force for good. A line from a popular song of the 60’s best sums up the kind, compassionate soul he was…”C’mon people now, smile on each other, everybody get together, try to love one another right now!”
