Obituary

Reverend James Raince Nii Kortei Clottey was born in Accra, Ghana on October 12, 1944 to John Clottey of Gbese and Elizabeth (Yartey) Clottey of Accra. He had his early education at Accra Royal School and Bishop School in Accra. He successfully passed the difficult entrance examinations to gain admission into the Tweneboa koduah Secondary School in Kumasi, where he completed the West African Secondary school General Certificate and Advance level Examinations.

He gained employment with the seat of Government as the senior protocol officer in charge of the head of states schedule. After working for about five years he decided to pursue higher education and that’s what forced him to leave the shores of our great continent. Upon arrival, he enrolled and Graduated from Worcester State College here in Worcester. He also studied and obtained a Travel Certificate to help the community to obtain better fares to Ghana. He also studied theology from a corresponding program and was ordained into the ministry in 1983.

While here in the USA, he was later joined by his son and former wife Vida of blessed memory and quickly added two beautiful girls to the family. After years as a widower, he married Sophie in June 2008.

He was employed at various Worcester companies: Reed and Prince, Parker wire while going to school. After completion of his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management he gained employment with Clear Point as a Purchasing Assistant where he rose to the position of Supply Chain Manager. He most recently worked at U.S. Securities in Framingham, MA and was also the sales executive at S.G. Travel International.

Reverend Clottey, in his zeal to get the community together, organized the Ga’s together and was the founding member and president of the Ga Adangbe club of Worcester for many years. He was appointed the Patron after he handed over the presidency to his successor to devote more time to his ministry.

He was a former member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Worcester, MA. On July 15, 2002, He was one of the founders and a former President of the Sarah Divine Covenant International Ministries in Worcester. He most recently was an assistant pastor at Hosanna Gospel Center. At Hosanna, he ministered to people in prayer, performed baptisms and took the ministerial role during the Israel Trips. Together with his wife Sophie and S.G. Travel, they have organized trips to Israel since 2011. In Feb 2014, they made the 3rd mission trip to Israel. He was a devoted servant of the Lord. He had the most generous, loving heart and touched many lives with his presence.

Revered James Raince Nii Kortei Clottey, 69, of Worcester, MA passed away to be with our Lord on Wednesday, September 3, 2014. He is survived by his wife Sophie Clottey, five children: Prince, Etta, Cheryl, Brian and Shwanna Clottey, six grandchildren: Kaiya, Emmanuel, Lexie, Cara, Corey and Caden, a sister Naa Kordei Clottey, an extended host of other family and friends.

Visiting hours will be on Friday, October 17th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. His funeral service will be on Saturday, October 18th from 8:00 to 10:00 am at the funeral home followed by burial at Notre Dame Cemetery.
