Obituary

WORCESTER-Henry C. “Hank” Gauthier, 87, of Worcester, died Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Knollwood Nursing Center.

He was born in Worcester, son of Cyrille and Florence (Arsenault) Gauthier and was one of nine children. Mr. Gauthier graduated from South High School and then served in the U.S. Navy from May 1945-July 1946. He served aboard the USS Argonne as the ships barber. After being discharged from the Navy he returned to South High School to finish his last year of High School. He then enrolled at Syracuse University and graduated in 1952 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He married his first wife Ruth M. McPartland in September of 1952. She predeceased him in 1993.


Mr. Gauthier is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jeanne R. (Anderson) Gauthier; five children, Nancy Walsh and her husband Jack of Hebron, CT, Christopher Gauthier of Pittsfield, Jane Gauthier of Worcester, Andrew Gauthier of Worcester, and Mary Ede and her husband Ted of Amherst, NH; four step-children, Ernest P. Jette, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Spencer, Denise Jette of Worcester, James Jette of Worcester, and Sandra Schultz and her husband Mark of Millbury. He also leaves a sister, Doris Clark of Worcester; seven grandchildren, John Walsh III, Melissa and Allyson Jette, and Kate and Jack Ede, Courtney and Ian Schultz; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by seven siblings, Roland Gauthier, Rose Barry, Rita Mullin, Robia Belmore, Lorraine Purdy, Irene Beaudet and Evelyn Durant.

Mr. Gauthier was employed by USF&G from 1956 to 1983 where he ran the Claims Department. He then bought the E.F. King Insurance Agency in Ashburnham which he owned and operated until his retirement in December, 2004. He was active in playing golf with the Greendale Retired Men's Club of Worcester for many years, and was a member of the Knight's of Columbus Alhambra Council of Worcester.


Mr. Gauthier’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 15 from CALLAHAN~FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove Street, Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. A visiting hour will also be held on Wednesday from 8:30-9:30 am at the funeral home.
