Obituary

WORCESTER-Jane F. (Prokopowich) Lucas, 87, a lifelong resident of Worcester, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014.

Her husband of over 58 years, Daniel J. Lucas predeceased her in 2005. She leaves a son, Donald W. Lucas and his wife Linda of Old Saybrook, CT; two daughters, Mary Jane Rasku and her husband William of Holden and Nancy Zelesky and her husband James of Hiram, ME. She also leaves ten grandchildren, Jason, Heather, Julie, Holly, Timothy, Christen, David, Rebecca, Jessica and Alexandra; nine great grandchildren, Adam, Morrison, Ivy, Mia, Dane, Emmett, Antonella, Trita, and Norah; and several nephews and nieces. Jane was predeceased by eight siblings, Alphonse, Stacia, Vitella, Julius, Joseph, Lucien, Daniel and Anna.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of Julius and Anna (Blaschko) Prokopowich and graduated from David Hale Fanning Trade School. Jane worked as a seamstress in the alteration departments of McGinnis Department Store and Charles Kay Dress Shop. She later worked as a lab technician at Astra Pharmaceutical for many years, retiring in 1999. She was a long time member of Our Lady of Czestochowa and its Ladies Guild. Jane was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and spending time with her family filled her life with joy. Jane truly had a grateful heart for her full life of family and friends. She also had a generous spirit, offering her time and talents whenever she was needed. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and watching the Red Sox play baseball.

Jane's family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Tatnuck Park of Worcester for the wonderful care they provided, especially Kim Gilleney, Jason McCann and Joan Lawson.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 4 at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester. A visiting hour will also be held on Saturday, October 4 at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass. Entombment in Notre Dame Mausoleum will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jane's memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
