Carolyn L. Gottwald, 88, of Roslindale (formerly of Dorchester), passed away on September 5. Born in Dorchester, she was the cherished daughter of the late William and Anna (Moore) Harrington. Predeceased by her beloved husband Boston Fire Lt. George J. Gottwald who died in the line of duty in 1970, her heroic oldest son Sp/4 George J. Gottwald Jr., KIA, Vietnam, 1968, and her dear beloved son Tommy at age 16 in 1974. Survived by Sgt. Fredrick Gottwald, ret. BPD, and his wife Priscilla of Stoneham; William Gottwald, ret. BFD, of Roslindale, Carolyn L. Barber and her husband Joseph of Lakewood, CA, Richard Gottwald, ret. BFD, of Roslindale, Jean Pijanowski Gottwald and her companion James Mahoney of Roslindale, Boston Fire Lt. Edward Gottwald and his wife Sharon of Foxborough and Denise Gottwald and her fiance Joseph Lewis of Wareham. Devoted grandmother of Erin, Kirsten, Thomas, Gretchen, Daniel, Nicole, Kerri, Jillian, Joseph, Courtney, Stephen, Curtis, Olivia, EJ and Lauren. Cherished great grandmother of Keilah. She also leaves her loving sister Anita of Lakewood, CA.
Carolyn was a role model to her family, the essence of kindness, generosity, faith and patience. She was a woman of strength and devoted her life to her children through more than their fair share of tragedies, all the while with dignity and grace. Loved and cherished by her large family, they pray her precious soul be reunited with the ones she missed so much in life and wish her peace, love and happiness, so hard to attain on Earth. Carolyn has left her mark and we will think of her every day with loving thoughts and memories. You are much loved and sorely missed already. Such a gentle soul will easily slip through the gates of heaven. Soar happily with the angels, Carolyn.
