Obituary

James S. Perry, 70, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly on Tuesday August 26, 2014 at Orchard View Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John S. and Merces C. (Figueira) Perry, he lived in New Bedford all of his life. He was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Jim was formerly employed as a mail sorting clerk at the Downtown New Bedford Post Office for over 30 years until his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Jim enjoyed vigorous discussions about local politics, current events, and religious and spiritual topics.

He is survived by his siblings, John S. Perry and his companion, Charlotte Pettersen of Higgunum, CT, Joseph S. Perry and his wife Carol, and Dolores E. Armando and her husband John, all of Dartmouth, Joyce C. Nelson and her husband David, and Mercedes C. Perry, all of New Bedford, and Mary C. Perry of Acushnet; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the uncle of the late Kathleen Nelson.

His Funeral will be held on Saturday, August 30th at 8:45 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at 9:45 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial with military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery, Visiting hours will be on Friday, August 29th from 5-7 PM.
