Obituary

Paul Leo Metivier, 51, of Westport passed away on Wednesday July 16, 2014 at the V.A. Medical Center in West Roxbury surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with ALS.
Born in New Bedford and a resident for most of his life, he graduated from New Bedford High School in 1982 where he was a standout athlete. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps where he earned several commendations.
He was the son of Leo Metivier, Jr. of Dartmouth and the late Marie (Soares) Auld of Wareham.
Paul loved fishing, playing cards, and being outdoors with family and friends. He was an avid New York Yankees fan much to the angst of his Boston Red Sox loving family. He was an outstanding softball player and Little League coach for his sons' baseball teams. He had a competitive nature and could always be seen on the sidelines cheering for his daughter at NBHS soccer games and track meets.
He was a receiving manager at Lowe's in Dartmouth where he had many good friends.
Paul is survived by his father Leo, his friend, Sheila Smeaton of Westport, his three children, Ian, Stefan, and Chelsea Metivier, their mother, Lyn Metivier, and his grandson, Julian Sanchez, all of New Bedford, as well as his brother, Kenneth Metivier of Fall River and his half-siblings, their spouses, and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, plus his amazing good friends who cared for him until his death.
