Dorothy (Freitas) Martins, 83, of Dartmouth died Saturday July 19, 2014 at Alden Court Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Manuel Martins and the late Frank Sylvia.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Goulart) Freitas, she lived in Dartmouth for many years.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth, where she served as a lector and Eucharistic minister.
Mrs. Martins was formerly employed by Morse Cutting Tools as a switchboard and teletype operator until her retirement.
She is survived by her nieces, Sheila Couto and husband Herman, Joanne Almeida, and Sherrie Booker and husband Brian; her stepchildren, Dennis Martins and wife Kathy, Manuel Martins and wife Maureen, and Judith Martins; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and Godchildren; and her beloved companion, Buffy.
She was the sister of the late John Freitas, Jr.
