Obituary

WORCESTER: Joseph L. Bigos, Jr., 81, of 167 Apricot St., died peacefully at home on Thursday evening, July 17, 2014, after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of almost 60 years, Arlene M. (O’Mara) Bigos; two daughters, Linda M. Rafferty and her husband Edward, Christine Frisch and her husband Kevin, all of Worcester; seven grandchildren, Kevin J. McNamara, Brianne M. McNamara, Erin L. McTigue, Kathleen M. Keefe, Brian P. Rafferty, Danielle A. Frisch, Rachel E. Frisch; four great grandchildren, Conor, Ryan, Colin, Maura; and several nieces and nephews. Another daughter, Beverly J. McNamara, a son-in-law, Kevin B. McNamara, and two sisters, Jean Mirante and Sally Bennett, all predeceased him. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late Joseph L. and Mary (Starsiak) Bigos and graduated from Commerce High School. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Joe worked at Table Talk Pie, Inc. for 18 years until retiring in 1984. He then worked in the Worcester Public Schools Maintenance Department for 10 years. He was a long time member of Our Lady of the Angels Parish and the Vernon Hill American Legion Post No. 435. He was also a member and past president of the Bakery & Confectionary Local No. 251. He was an avid New York Yankee fan and enjoyed sharing “time at the lake” with family.
A CALLING HOUR will be held from 9:15 A.M. to 10:15 A.M. on MONDAY, JULY 21 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St., followed by a FUNERAL MASS at 11 A.M. in OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS CHURCH, 1222 Main St. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.
