Earl Thomas Downs Obituary - Water Valley MS

Earl Thomas Downs, age 71, died Friday, April 18, 2014 at his home in Water Valley, MS. He was born February 20, 1943 in Yalobusha County, MS to the late Johnny Thomas and Lettie Louise Gordon Downs. Earl retired as a supervisor for Emerson Electric Company and later worked for a number of years at Davidson Elementary School in Water Valley, MS. He was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Panola County, MS and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, riding horses and spending time with family and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 21, 2014 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Panola County, MS. Funeral services will follow the visitation at the church with Bro. Jay Anderson, Bro. Phillip Cook and Bro. Derrick Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Jimmy Sellers, Dee Craig, Eddie Kirk, Cody Forester, Jimmy Dale Sellers, Zachary Sellers, Dub Wilson and Billy Smith serving as pallbearers.

Earl is survived by his wife, Frances Marie Howe Downs of Water Valley, MS; his daughter, Earlene Chrestman (Mike) of Pope, MS; a special niece, Mandy Byars (Kenny) of Water Valley, MS; his brother-in-law, Jimmy Sellers and his sister-in-law, Birdie Sellers of Pope, MS; four grandchildren, Christy Marie Chrestman, Brandy Chrestman, Jessica Chrestman and Cody Downs; one great grandchild, Brailee King.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Russell Downs.
