Obituary

Dennis T. Walsh, 72, of New Bedford died April 13, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Carol F. (DeSilva) Walsh with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John F. and Mary (Hampson) Walsh, he was brought up on the peninsula in the far south end of New Bedford and continued to live there after marrying and bringing up his children. He loved looking out at the waters of Clarks Cove and Buzzard's Bay.
Mr. Walsh was a lifelong parishioner of St. James Church, now Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.
He was formerly employed by The New Bedford Standard-Times starting in 1971 as photoengraver and then moving on to be manager of the Camera Department.
Mr. Walsh was an avid sailor who enjoyed sailing and weekend cruises on Buzzard's Bay, to the Elizabeth Islands, and Martha's Vineyard with family and friends - first on his Bristol Corsair and then on his Pearson. He was past commodore of Low Tide Yacht Club and participated in the weekly Low Tide races.
Mr. Walsh enjoyed family trips to Bermuda with his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed playing golf in Bermuda and South Carolina. He volunteered as a Cub Scout Leader at St. James Church during the time his children were young and volunteered as a coach and umpire in the South End Youth Athletic Association.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis M. Walsh and his wife Tara Mandeville Walsh of Mattapoisett; a daughter, Nancy A. Walsh-Sayles and her husband Stephen W. Sayles of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren, Kathryn E. Sayles, Andrew C. Sayles, Teagan M. Walsh and Hadley E. Walsh; and several cousins.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday, April 16th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, April 15th from 4-8 PM.
