Lars Sovik, 75, of Fairhaven died March 3, 2014 at home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was the husband of Sonja (Jacobsen) Sovik.
Born and raised in Norway, the son of the late Torleif Johannes Sovik and Sofie (Hansen) Sovik, he lived in Fairhaven since 1958.
Mr. Sovik was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was a commercial fisherman for many years and captain and owner of F/V Valkyrie and F/V Endurance.
Mr. Sovik enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking and watching soccer.
Survivors include his wife; his 3 children, Karina Sovik-Correia and her husband George of Rochester, Dagne (Sovik) Evich and her husband Adam and Karl J. Sovik and his wife Melissa, all of Fairhaven; 2 sisters, Turid Halleland and Solveig Selle, both of Norway; 7 grandchildren, Shane Correia, Olivia Correia, Mason Evich, Turner Evich, Spencer Sovik and his fiancée Ciara Gonzalez, Myles Sovik and Kelsey-Korin Sovik; a great-grandson, Bane; and many nieces and nephews.
His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 11 AM in the Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 Temple Place, Fairhaven. Private burial will be in Riverside Cemetery prior to his service. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett.
