Obituary

MATTHEW PAUL HICKEY, 47, of Hingham, died on Thursday, Dec. 26th, 2013 in the arms of his mother and surrounded by his loving family and members of the clergy. He fought a valiant battle against a rare and vicious form of brain cancer. Matthew was a gifted young man beloved by many from coast to coast. He graduated from Hingham High School where he did the art work for his year book. He received a degree in history, English and Irish literature from U. Mass. Boston. His degree was presented to him by his favorite neighbor Dr. Elizabeth Rawlins, a member of the Governor's Council on Education at the time. He worked for the Old Colony Newspaper in Plymouth and soon headed west to follow his dream with his best friend, James Cox. He worked his way up in the television business at Modern Marvels and soon established his own production company, 'Workaholics, Inc.' with another good friend, Luke Ellis doing a number of documentaries for the History Channel, Discovery, National Geographic and the Military Channel. His 'The Real Story of Christmas' was rerun on this past Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning. He was gifted in art, music and photography. He played piano and the trumpet in his high school band.

He leaves his parents, Paul and Diane Hickey of East Bridgewater; a sister, Brenda of Bourne, and two brothers; Thomas of Colorado and David of Hanson. Also, many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends and his God Children; Conor Hanley of Bourne and Shannon Hickey of Colorado. Special love to Eli Harris and all the nurses at the new Hingham Hospice on Turkey Hill Lane in Hingham. They gave Matthew loving care.

A Memorial Service celebrating Matthew's life will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 4th at 1 PM at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St., Hingham. His ashes will be interred in St. John's Memorial Garden next to the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory would be appreciated to the Paul & Diane Hickey Family Scholarship Fund, c/o The Hingham Institute for Savings, 55 Main St., Hingham, MA 02043 to be given to Hingham High School students.
