Obituary

Elizabeth Cornwall, age 89, of Hingham, MA, died on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Chester River Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chestertown, MD. She was the daughter of the late Laurance and Florence Cornwall. She is survived by a sister, Priscilla Cornwall Cooper, and two nieces and a nephew: Deborah Williams and husband, Marvin, Eugenia Wootton and husband, Michael, and William Cooper and wife, Damaris, all of Chestertown, MD. Six great nieces and nephews and one great, great niece also survive.



Betsy was born in Boston, MA on February 15, 1924. She graduated from Hingham High School in 1941 and from Cornell University in 1945 with a B.S. in Foods and Nutrition. Her internship as a dietitian was at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver, CO. She worked as a dietitian at Cornell until 1951 when she became the Institutional Dietitian for Wellesley College until her retirement in 1986. She returned to Hingham to enjoy her retirement. In May, she moved to Chestertown to be near family.



Betsy was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Hingham. She was a member of the Embroiderers’ Guild, participating in their kneelers project. She volunteered at the Hingham Public Library and the Hull Lifesaving Museum. In her free time, she enjoyed sailing, reading and bridge.



A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 11:00am at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Hingham, MA. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 172 Main St., Hingham, MA, 02043, Hingham Public Library, 66 Leavitt St., Hingham MA 02043, or The Hull Lifesaving Museum, P.O. Box 221, Hull, MA 02045. Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel in Hingham, MA assisted with the funeral arrangements.
