Elvira “Vera” (Genovese) Saldi passed away on December 18, 2013. She was 87 years old.
Vera was born in Boston to Italian immigrant parents. She was raised in the North End along with her four brothers and three sisters in the height of the depression. She left school in the 8th grade to work in the garment industry as a stitcher to help support her family. Vera met and married Frank Saldi in 1951 and moved to Malden where they raised their four children. They lived in Malden for the past 55 years and had many interests but her favorite past-time was her weekly Friday night card club with her friends. Vera loved taking care of her children and grandchildren and was proud of all of them. She thoroughly enjoyed holidays with her family and making them special with her wonderful cooking. Vera was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
Vera was the devoted wife of 59 years to the late Frank Saldi. She was the beloved mother of Susan Saldi of Malden, Toni Richards and her husband Brian of Malden, Nick Saldi and his wife Judy of TX, and Frank Saldi and his wife Ann of Framingham. Vera was the dear sister of Carmella Gemmato and her husband Joseph of TN and the late Santo, Frank, Joseph, and Tony Genovese, Sarah Duranti and Rose Manfra. She was the sister in-law of Mary Genovese of WI. Vera was the cherished grandmother of Daniel and Monica Richards of Malden and Frankie and Bobby Saldi of Framingham. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held from the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home 865 Main Street Malden on Saturday Dec. 21st at 9:00a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church 297 Main Street Malden at 10:00a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are Friday December 20th from 4-8pm. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
