Richard L. Evans of Natick passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Metrowest Medical Center of Natick. He was eighty-one years old.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 30, 1932, he was the son of the late L. Cowan and Hattie (Ivy) Evans.
He was raised in Chicago and worked as a professor at the Berkley College of Music in Boston for twenty-five years.
Richard joined the United States Army in February of 1953 and served our country proudly as a corporal during the Korean War.
He had a passion for music, played the stand up bass and composed, arranged and produced music. He was also nominated for a Grammy award.
Mr. Evans enjoyed painting, illustrating and eating pie especially peach cobbler. A Natick resident for over twenty-eight years, he was the devoted husband of Allison R. (Lewis) Evans of Natick with whom he shared thirty-nine years of marriage.
He was the loving father of Verna Davis of Mesa, AZ, Christopher Evans of Natick, Camarah Evans and his wife Jill of Natick, Laverne Newman of Mesa, AZ, Claude Newman of Atlanta, Lavada Cartwright of Illinois and Keith Carter of Chicago.
Cherished grandfather of Aleah, Logan and Amiah Evans, Keenan Moore, Jason Duckworth, Aaron and Brandon Lewis and great grandfather of Jordyn Moore.
Caring brother of the late Claude Evans. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins Michael Ivy of Nashville and Gloria Jean Edwards of Birmingham, Alabama.
A visitation will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., at Natick Common on Saturday, October 11th at 10:00AM. Richard’s Funeral Service will begin at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
