Obituary

Alice Mae (McCarthy) O’Connor a lifelong resident of Stoughton passed away at home on Monday April 28, 2014. She was 74 years old and the beloved wife of the late James O’Connor. She is survived by her two sisters, Laura L. Jewett and Barbara F. Morrissey both of Stoughton. Other survivors include her two devoted and playful companions, Mickey and Holly and many nieces and nephews. She was also a sister to the late Jeanne R. Rist, William E. McCarthy Jr., John T. McCarthy, Michael J. McCarthy, Gerald F. McCarthy and her twin brother Robert L. McCarthy.

Born March 2, 1940 at home in Stoughton, Massachusetts, she was a loving daughter to the late William E. McCarthy Sr. and Beatrice L. (Robicheau) McCarthy. Alice attended Stoughton Public Schools and Stoughton High School. She was a former member of the First Congregational Church of Stoughton and was a dedicated volunteer at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in West Roxbury.

She was employed for over 20 years as a warehouse attendant at the former Chadwick’s of Boston Clothing Company in West Bridgewater. She was also employed as a grocery clerk at the Stop & Shop Supermarket in Stoughton and as a laborer at the former J.W. Wood Elastic Web Co. in Stoughton.

Her hobbies included, cooking, puzzles, reading books and newspapers, collecting lighthouse memorabilia of all kinds and she had a particular fondness for dogs and cats. She was also an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Alice will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

At her request, all funeral services will be private. Donations in Alice’s memory can be made to the Stoughton Friend’s For Seniors Organization, 102 Chestnut Street, Stoughton, MA 02072.
