
Kay Pridgen, 60, of Irwin County, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Monday, May 20, 2013, at Arbor Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at Arbor Baptist Church.
Ms. Pridgen was born July 5, 1952, in Fitzgerald to Loyd Benford and Edwina Wiley Wynn. A 1970 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, she received her Bachelors Degree from Tift College for Women in 1974. A career educator, Ms. Pridgen taught primary and elementary students in the Ben Hill County School System for over 30 years. Following her retirement 3 years ago, she continued to substitute teach and returned to work half time at the Elementary School. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Arbor Baptist Church, where she attended the Gleaners Sunday school class and formerly taught Mission Friends. Ms. Pridgen loved to sew and fish and spend time with her grandchildren. She had a passion for children and learning and became “Granny Kay” to many even before her own grandchildren were born.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Andy & Tia Pridgen and Jacob & Jodi Pridgen; grandchildren: Kaylin Pridgen, Wyatt Pridgen, Judd Pridgen and another expected soon, all of Irwin County; her mother: Edwina W. Wynn; father and stepmother: Loyd & Mildred Benford, all of Fitzgerald; sister and brother-in-law: Linda & Pete Horne of Perry; and brother and sister-in-law: Eddie & Marcia Benford of Irwin County. She was preceded in death by her stepfather: Alvin Wynn.
