Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Elrick M. and Ethel (Rogers) Chaput, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
Mr. Chaput was formerly employed as a service technician for Sears Roebuck and Company for many years until his retirement. He had also previously worked at Mayhew's Appliance Company.
He enjoyed flea markets with his late wife and listening to his radio. He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Couples Club. All throughout his life he was a very giving person and continued his giving at his death as a tissue donor.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his two children, Pamela D. Texeira and her husband Richard of Dartmouth and David R. Chaput of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Amy C. Texeira and Kevin R. Texeira and his wife Kristy, all of Dartmouth; a great-granddaughter, Paige E. Texeira; a step-great-grandson, Jordan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the grandfather of the late Matthew D. Chaput and the brother of the late Kathryn Sweeney and William Chaput.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
